Valle de Bravo is a city on Lake Avándaro, west of Mexico City. The lake, surrounded by forested mountains, is a center for water sports. The city's cobblestone streets are lined with well-preserved colonial buildings. In the center of the Plaza de la Independencia is the Church of San Francisco de Asís from the 17th century. The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is the habitat of millions of migratory butterflies and is located north of the city.
